Macau’s Academia de Música São Pio X was founded in 1962 by the famous composer, conductor and music educator, Fr Áureo Castro. Lessons first began at the Catholic Centre in four classrooms, in 1975 the Academia moved to bigger premises at Rua Formosa, and in 1995 it was relocated to its present address in Rua da Santa Clara. For over five decades, the Academia has been providing musical training to thousands of students. For each student a story about their musical journey has unfolded, from their first music lesson, making new friends, to knowing more about themselves…

Time flashes by. After 24 years at Rua da Santa Clara, No. 19, 2-andar, the Academia is preparing to move to grander buildings in the heritage site of Colégio Mateus Ricci. For those who have grown used to walking up the stairs at Rua da Santa Clara, like a familiar melody played over and over again, will the move signify a separation or a continuation?

Amidst conversation and laughter, memories are stirred. How did you enter this musical world? How has it become a part of your life, and where is it leading you?
